Up for auction is a postmarked 1909 RPPC postcard of a "Tarpon Brought In To Be Mounted" from Tarpon, Texas. It is postmarked Aug. 30, 1909 and mailed from Tarpon, Tex to Mrs. John Ballenger of Marion, Indiana. It includes a U.S. stamp of 1 cent. It was published by J.E. Cotter, Publisher, Tarpon, Texas. The postcard measures 5 and 1/4 inches X 3 and 1/4 inches. It is in good condition with a soft corners so please enlarge photographs to judge details. This is a historic piece from the history of Port Aransas, Texas. From the chamber website: The town of Mustang Island was called Ropesville by the early 1890's but changed its name to Tarpon by 1899 because of the large numbers of the fish being caught in its waters. The population at that time was about 250. Citizens began calling their town Port Aransas about 1910. The storm of 1919 virtually wiped out the town except for a few structures.
