Typed Letter Signed Twice by Ezra Pound, dated Rapallo, May 15, 1935 T.L.S. on two pages of Pound's personal yellow letterhead from the Rapallo, Via Marsala. This unusually coherent letter reads, "Dear Mr. Sayer, In appealing to yr/ harrassed elders, you'd probably get stronger response if you fortified yourself with fuller information as to how they occupied, and what they believe. If you want a 'message', you can have the following. Editors Programme: Gentleman: Conditions you deplore seem to me curable only on condition that: I. You regard the arts as intensifiers of perception. II. That yr/ own perceptions be sufficiently strong to persist into the ECONOMIC (specifically the MONETARY) factor in EVERY human problem in our time, in our kind and degree of civilization. The dilletante refusal to look at those factors in life where with Homer, and Propertius and Dante found time for specific concern, has had no part in real writing.
