Pair Chinese Powder Blue Porcelain Food Warmers Signed with Guangxu Mark This extremely rare pair of Chinese Food Warmers, executed in the highly prized and desirable Powder Blue and Gold decoration, is signed in the red Da Qing Guangxu Nian Zhi mark and the China mark. The pedestal-footed vessels retain their original gilt porcelain liners, lids and bails and objects in this style of decoration were most likely used by Chinese non-succession princes, dukes and concubines, all members of the Imperial retinue in Beijing. The flared pedestal bases support globular dishes retaining their original white porcelain and gilt liners with two side mounted bails, the whole surmounted by a decorated domed lid having a fu lion knopp. The rare powder-blue (bleu-poudré) glaze was first developed during the reign of the Kangxi Emperor, and is most desirable when it supports original hand-applied overglaze-gilt decoration in 24k gold as seen on these examples. This pair is decorated with five-clawed dragons, the symbol of the emperor, and phoenixes, the symbol of the empress. The two together form a rebus for fidelity and harmony within the court and empire. Each piece is free from chips, cracks, glaze bruising or other major damage to the vessels, liners, bails and lids. There is wear to the lid of one food warmer, and minor wear to the body consistent with careful use, while the other food warmer has excellent decoration with no losses. The copper bails have lost their gilding. Each food warmer measures a substantial 8”h x 7.75”w. The diameter of the rim is 7.25”. The liner measures 2.5” h x 7.75” diameter. The body of the vessel measures 5.75”h to the rim, and with the liner is 6” h. The foot diameter is 4.5”. Matched pairs of porcelain powder blue food warmers are very scarce and desirable. The glaze itself is among the most highly prized Qing glazes. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to add a rare and highly desirable matched pair of Imperial Chinese Porcelain, mark and period examples to your Qing (or Ch’ing) dynasty porcelain, Imperial Porcelain, Asian porcelain, Antique Chinese porcelain collection.
