Pair of Oil-on-Canvas Portraits of War of 1812 Captain, John Berry, and his Wife, early 19th century, Berry's portrait depicting the man seated in a red chair, holding a letter. Wife depicted wearing a shawl and head covering, also seated in a red chair. Berry commanded the Washington Artillery at the Battle of Ft. McHenry in 1814. Provenance: Purchased from descendants of Berry living in Baltimore's Eutaw Place. Paintings have been cleaned, relined, and in-painted. Frames regilded. Eagle finials missing from frame. Framed: 47" x 38".
