This scarce, unique denomination 1845 U.S. Gold $2.50 Liberty Head "Quarter Eagle" is among the longest existing designs in America. This remarkable coin survived the Civil War and 167 years of American History and still looks much as it did when first minted. It weighs 4.18 grams of .900 Fine Gold with a diameter of 18mm. It has a complete reeded edge and nothing would indicate that it's ever been altered for jewelry. It may have been cleaned at one time but I believe its peripheral Mint Luster to be genuine.
