Up for auction are a used Leica IIIb Camera body, Leica Summitar 5cm f2.0 lens with cap, leather case & strap, and a Leica “0” yellow filter. The equipment was donated to us, and we have inspected it carefully and done minor cleaning. The quality of the materials used in this camera is most impressive, especially when compared with modern cameras – I doubt if any modern one would be in serviceable condition 73 years after manufacture! The individual pieces are described below: Leica IIIb Body, #323163, 1939 : The body shows wear, but not abuse. A portion of the black Vulcanite body covering is missing, as shown in the pictures. The shutter appears to function properly at speeds of 1/30 to 1/1000 (viewing light through the shutter), but the timer mechanism for the 1/20 of a second and slower speeds works intermittently. The film advance knob and shutter release button work fine. The rangefinder on the IIIb is right next to the viewfinder, and both are clear. The rangefinder works quite well and has a diopter correction lever, a nice feature. The camera has not been tested with film, so we cannot gurantee the accuracy of the shutter speeds nor film handling.
