The Hollywood actor/director's memoir of his long and brilliant career is an absorbing and fascinating read. Preminger directed 36 films and (less well-known) 32 stage productions of both the classics and contemporary plays. For better or for worse, he will be remembered for such film classics as "Laura", "River of No Return", "Carmen Jones" (the adaptation of the great opera), "The Man With The Golden Arm" (the adaptation of Nelson Algren's great novel), "Anatomy of a Murder", which is widely considered to be his masterpiece, "Exodus", "The Cardinal", and "Hurry Sundown" (a pioneering and daring film about racism, with Jane Fonda, Michael Caine, and Faye Dunaway).
