13" Black Boy Doll This little boy doll has been a visitor in my house since 1987. He stands about 13" tall, has custard yellow shoes with blue-striped stockings that button at the hip. His body and arms are muslin, and he is thoroughly stuff with straw! I have not touched him since he came in except to dust him. His arms move and wire-jointed with a long nail and washer. His legs have an even larger tin washer and nail to wire them. They are all moveable. His shoes, hands and head are composition. His shoes have molding cracks at the sole and do not detract from their definition lines. The palm of one hand has crazing. The forarms are pealing on one arm. This little boy's face is in wonderful condition. He has side-glancing brown eyes marked with the appropriate red dot. His lips are wonderfully red, and his eye brows are one-stroke brows. He has tinted or painted black molded hair which is somewhat crazed to cracking. His green-striped sunsuit is handmade with an overhand-stitched pocket and shoulder ties. It is cotton and does not fasten in the back. He has a funny "star" button hanging around his neck, but I liked it and kept it. I added the hat years ago and so it will go with him. If your collection includes finished, polished dolls, exquisitely made, this doll is not for you. It is a primitive, well-made, but played-with. read more
