Primitive and Antique Old Hand Held School Bell from Pennsylvania - Brass and Wood Very old hand held school bell used by teachers everyw years ago to call the kids in from recess and lunch or to start the school day. This bell came from an antique sale many many years ago in Pennsylvania and has set on a shelf of our old farmhouse home for many years. We are down-sizing our home and getting rid of some of our collections of "stuff" that we have hung on to just because we like them. The bell is 7 inches tall and 4 inches in diameter with the wooden handle being 4 inches long with an old square nut and a hex nut securing the handle. I believe the actual bell is brass and it has one of those old cast iron ball clangers secured by the old style hook and eye metal hanger. This bell has a very very loud and clear CLANG to it and is quite heavy weighing nearly a pound. I can see no cracks or faults in the brass bell itself but the handle shows its age w the black patina has worn away from use and showing the actual wood grain. But since we sell antique and older estate items we have no idea if a smoker has been within a 100 mile radius of any item we sell so if you have smoking issues please by pass our items completely because it saves grief for all of us. read more
