A new and unique map edition featuring a beautiful version of Captain Francis Neville’s original map of the Siege of Derry in 1689, telling the story of the War of the Three Kings. It illustrates the extent of the siege works and fortification from Culmore Point to Londonderry, and includes portraits of William III and James II of England with their respective coats of arms and descriptive text set within scrolls. Apart from the map itself, the insets and descriptions, there are several interesting features. At the top are the arms of the See of Derry, shown above those of the city of Londonderry with a surround of cherubs and military emblems. At the bottom is a dazzling image of the beautifully crafted Gold Mask of Louis XIV of France, 'The Sun King', whose attempts to subjugate Europe contributed so much to the conflict in Ireland. This beautiful Print measures an impressive 63 cm by 30 cm and is ready for mounting or framing. This map is a must for anyone interested in the history of the siege of Londonderry in 1688/1689, the longest siege in British history. The siege is still commemorated to this day by the Apprentice Boys of Derry. It would make an ideal birthday/Christmas present. LOW STARTING PRICE. NO RESERVE.
