Best of Utah - Pyromorphite Up for auction is a large cabinet-sized piece of quartzite featuring a nice exposure of small, olive-green pyromorphite. Pyromorphite is an uncommon secondary lead chloride mineral that is even more uncommon than usual in Utah. The Baby Mckee (Howell) Mine was first discovered in 1890, and 70 tons of ore were produced that year. The mine was developed through the use of both an adit and an incline shaft, although the adit disclosed only a few additional ore bodies. The main ore minerals were galena and lead carbonate ores. Production ended in the 1920's with the decline of silver prices and decreasing ore bodies. The mine is now flooded and largely collapsed. This sample features a relatively large exposure of olive-green pyromorphite, although smaller exposures of the barrel-shaped mineral are found elsewhere on the sample. The crystals are small, although unmistakable. The piece measures approximately 12 cm by 5 cm. Not the most fantastic sample of pyromorphite you will ever see, but definitely not bad for the district. U.S. bidders only unless previous arrangements have been made. I will ship as soon as payment is received. Posted with the eBay Android app
