Pysanky - Hand decorated Ukrainian Egg: 20 years ago a friend of mine taught me how to craft Pysanky Ukrainian eggs. I have been doing it ever since and love the processes of the craft. It is done the traditional way using beeswax and dye baths. Many colors and patterns are called for similar to the way Batik fabric is made. The wax is removed after the designs and coloring is completed. 3-4 coats of varnish are then applied and the contents of the egg are blown out through a tiny hole in one end. It is very time consuming but the end result is very rewarding. Keep the eggs out of direct sunlight. We have our eggs displayed in a glass case for the past 20 years and they look as good as the day they were made. NOTE: The small stand shown is not included.
