A very good used example of the very first stamp ever made.It is a one penny intense black (early impression) (Type1) line engraved stamp engraved by Charles and Frederick Heath and printed in recess by Perkins, Bacon and Co.The watermark is Small Crown Type II as per the Stanley Gibbons Windsor Album 12 edition - see second picture. The stamp itself is classified as SG1 i.e. the very first in the first set of stamps in the world. There are three very good margins - see the picture and judge for yourself. The letters in the lower two corners are "DD".It has some of the envelope remaining, sufficient to see a virtually full red Maltese cross cancellation.Imperf.Plate 1b.The 2012 British Stamp Values Book has a three margin intense black as £90 with as much again for a red Maltese cross cancellation.Posted with eBay Mobile
