Sir Gawain & The Green Knight Edited by J.R.R. Tolkien & E.V. Gordon “Corrected impression, 1930” Published by The Clarendon Press, Oxford, Oxford, in 1930, J.R.R. Tolkien contributed to the preface of this book and co-edited it with E.V. Gordon. The first edition was published in 1925. This is the corrected impression, 1930 (see photo). Copies of this book in its original dust jacket are extremely hard to find, and when found are often in very poor condition and heavily annotated, as most of them were used by students and scholars. This copy is in good plus condition. It would be very good, but there is a slight bow to the front board. There is no previous owner’s name, no foxing, and no bent, torn or missing pages. The gold gilt on the spine and front cover is bright and fresh, and the book is square and solid. There are light penciled notes and comments only on pages 19 through 78 (out of 211 numbered pages); they are not heavy or obnoxious. This copy is in its original unclipped dust jacket with tanning and mottling to the spine with browning (see photo). The dust jacket shows the original price of 7s. 6d. net.
