This is the most superb German WW1 book by Swede Sven Hedin. It is his travel log of driving along the German Western Front Lines toward the end of 1914. The book is very, very detailed in his descriptions of the villages, towns and French landscape and in his interactions with the german soldiers, officers and Generals that he meets along the way. All this is interlaced with superb photographs taken by the author on the spot. Because of a personal interest in the particular village being described I have translated the entire last chapter of the book and you will find my translation at the bottom of this listing. All of the sample pics in this listing (apart from the first four pics) are taken from this last chapter. This truly is an excpetional book and I can assure you that everything that Sven Hedin describes is very accurate. I have personally visited some of the places described with the book in hand and can verify his descriptions are accurate. It would easily be possible to re-trace his entire trip along the front on your next holidays. The book is hardback and has a total of 534 numbered pages. It measures 9 1/4" x 6 1/4". It weighs about 1.5kg (3 pounds). This item is guaranteed original and is NOT a copy, reprint or fake of any kind. The item will be shipped from Liverpool in the UK.
