RAKU POTS, VASES AND BOWLS This is one of a kind, and I can not duplicate it even if I wanted to. This Vase is 9 inch’s tall and about 5 inches wide . Some sparkle rainbows some have copper effect, all depending on the light. Soft light give the most vivid and true colors. ++++A FEW Photos are shot in soft box to show texture usually don't reflect true color.++++ FIVE THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT RAKU! 1. Color is very different from daylight, shadow to inside light 2. There will be marks from the fire and tongs and combustibles used. 3. There will be bumps and bubbles in the glazes, 4. Last and most important if it doesn't have these it is not real RAKU! 5. Raku will not hold water, if you put live flowers in it use a cup inside. Many hours go into making just one item. First just making it takes at least one hour and more. Then I fire it in a kiln to get the first working piece, this take 6 + hours. After it cools, usually 24 hours. Then I glaze it with a special coating and then put it in the kiln again. T his is where the fun begins! It has been kiln fired then glazed with my special raku glaze. Then re-fired to 1850 degrees pulled from the kiln while red hot using tongs, and then placed into a garbage can full of newspaper.
