You are viewing a MAY 1978 Raleigh CHOPPER Black Prismaticincluding frame, forks and chainguard . This frame has been fully restored , sprayed with undercoat and with 2 layers of black colour. The frame was applied with brand new decals . Crank, headset and bottom bracket were refitted with new bearings and greased. Kickstand is included in frame and the chain guard was fitted with its original screws. Frame number is NG8315724 Some additional information about the Black prismatic! By 1978 sales of the Chopper were slowing down in the marketplace slightly, and the marketing men decided upon one last try at a “special edition” that this time, might actually sell in some numbers. Black was chosen as the base colour, mainly to show off the new stickers. Taking a lead from the Custom Car community of the era, they decided to manufacture graphics for the bike using Diffraction tape. ( or Prismatic tape) Originally invented in America for the musical instrument trade, Diffraction tape had been taken up with some enthusiasm by the custom car painters. It was a multi layer vinyl adhesive tape, which bent reflective light as it left the surface of the tape, allowing, in sunshine especially, all the colours of the rainbow to be seen in one silver reflection.
