RAOB? ENAMEL ON SILVER GILT BUFFALO BROOCH, B’HAM 1974 An oval brooch of silver gilt (gold plate on sterling silver), the edge pierced and decorated with scrollwork, and the face bearing a full colour enamel picture of a buffalo. The back of the brooch is fully hallmarked for Birmingham , 1974, with maker’s mark F.C P (FC Parry Ltd, Regalia Makers, Frederick Street , Birmingham ). The back of the brooch is fitted with a hinged pin with simple C-hook fastener, and there is a loop with a brassed safety chain and pin attached. 35x18mm; total weight 11.2g. Supplied in presentation box. In excellent pre-owned condition, with only the merest hint of wear to the gilding and enamel work, and no damage. F.C. Parry are still trading as regalia and badge makers (at a different address). One of their specialities is supplying regalia to the Royal Antedeluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), and this brooch was possibly for presentation to a female relative of one of the members.
