A uction D escription Up for your consideration is a pair of bookends that one doesn't see everyday. This is a 1930's Art Deco pair that displays the bust of a canine breed that is respected and admired throughout the world for its versatility, intelligence, and loyalty - the German Shepherd. This pair is very simple in its design - strong, detailed, and realistic features on a sleek, geometric, stylized base. The pieces are extremely nice, possessing a 3D quality, as the massive K-9 domes protrudes forth from the bookends, seemingly suspended in mid-air. These pleasing pieces are accurate depictions of the handsome and well-proportioned German Shepherd breed, with the sturdy, muscular, and thick jaws, the wide-based, upright ears, the ruffled, furry collar, and the very distinctive muzzle. Oh, and let's not forget that ever-hanging tongue! One will find that this is indeed a splendid pair with no faults to mention. They are well-designed, gorgeous bookends that any collector would love to have! Both are exceptional pieces that could adorn any shelf or mantle quite well. The maker remains unknown, but I have seen the same basic design before with different dog breeds. One of those sets can be seen in the Collector's Encyclopedia of Bookends.
