For your consideration is an EXTREMELY RARE ANCIENT CHINESE 'SEA WARRIOR' Folding Lanyard Knife . ONE OF A KIND? You tell me. I've been collecting knives for over 30 years and have never seen one like it. Nor have any of the other dealers I've shown it to. I did see a Wooden model that was apparently made for a child which looked identical to this one. It sold for $260.00. Obviously copied from this original. Only one dealer had any information on the knife though he had only seen it in a collector's book. It is over 150 years old and possibly even 300! The really amazing thing is it still opens and closes fine. Closes deep. See pics. Closed length is 8 1/4". Marlin Spike just over 2". Blade measures 5 1/2" plus lanyard hook. Overall open length measures 10 1/2 inches! All steel construction. Very solid knife. Blade is actually very sharp! These knives were carried aboard sailing vessels by Warriors that were the Maritime equivalent to Samurai. Man, if this knife could talk! Warriors carried these on a braided leather lanyard and were used for various chores on their voyages as well as cleaning fish. The Marlin spike was also used to loosen knotted mooring ropes. The unique shape of the blade lent to seperating marine life as well as a last resort for personal protection when the battle required stealth or up close and personal work. read more
