This blade marked M3 combat or trench knife by Utica is a real beauty in practically new condition! These M3 knives were only made for a period of 17 months, and the blade marked versions only in the early part of that period. I have hesitated to sell this beauty, as it is one of the very best knives that I have ever owned in terms of condition and rarity. What makes this knife even more rare, is that it has a double "pinned" pommel as well as a "staked" pommel. In the book "The U.S. M-3 Trench Knife of WWII" by Coniglio, on page 33 it states: "Some blade marked Uticas also have pinned pommels. Utica then switched from pinning the pommel to staking the tang. This change occured early as a Utica blade marked M-3 {no 1943 date} with a pinned pommel is a rather scarce knife." Amazingly enough, this knife has both, and to make it even more rare, t was never a flaming bomb symbol stamped into the pommel. I have attempted to close up photograph the pinning, but the pins are so closely fit, it may not show up very well, unless you download them and view it full screen. This knife has never been sharpened, and most all of the finish is still intact on the entire piece.
