Item Description : RARE "B.E.R.R.", believed to be Brooklyn Elevated Railroad brakeman's railroad lantern made by R.R. Signal Lamp and Lantern, with clear unmarked glass globe. Back on eBay and continuing with "Round 4" with this lantern from my late father's railroadianna collection, and one of the items that I am "thinning out". This lantern is a rare one from the collection...and in extraordinary condition. It is completely clean and solid, with no discernable rust and no dents whatsoever. The only "defect", other than normal wear and tear from aging, is the surface which seems to have little droplettes of white paint on the top. The fount is clean and odor free, and has a new, unused wick with wick height adjustor that is operable. The very top of the chimney on the lantern has embossed lettering for the manufacturer in fine print: "R. R. Signal Lamp and Lantern Co." and "New York", with even finer, stamped in patent information inside of that. Further down on the roof of the lantern are the embossed letters "B.E.R.R." I did an extensive on-line search for those reporting marks, and learned of two in the United States: one was for a shortline in the desert southwestern U.S., and the other was for the Brooklyn Elevated Railroad.
