. RARE COLONIAL STYLE NATIVE INDIAN GLAZE POTTERY POT . Inventory Number: N305 Country of Origin: Bolivia. Basic Description: An authentic hand crafted ceramic vessel of vintage age. Native Name: Kaychuña ["vessel for lifting liquid"] Region: Collected in Pucarani Pueblo, Provincia Los Andes, Department of La Paz. Culture: Aymara/Spanish. Approximate Age: Antique; possibly Colonial, actual age unknown. Materials: Pottery, glaze, rawhide. Approximate Size: 4 ¾ inches tall; 3 ½ inches in diameter; the orifice is 3 inches in diameter. Color Dark chocolate brown, honey brown and lichen green. Condition: Excellent; opposite the handle is a vintage hairline crack in the form of an inverted "Y." The old rawhide wrapping was probably applied to keep the crack from expanding. The vessel holds liquid. Remarks: This interesting lot consists of a stunning and curious old cup or jar collected in the Northern Aymara Pueblo of Pucarani, south of Lake Titikaka. It is a beautiful ceramic that was wheel-thrown and enhanced with a crude, ribbon-like handle. Four different glazes were used in its manufacture: the upper interior of the vessel was coated with a gray glaze; the exterior was coated with thick chocolate brown and honey brown glazes and ultimately it was enhanced with abstract floral designs in lichen-green glaze.
