Another great old Stanley tool and one that is seldom seen if at all on ebay. Not made for very many years (last production year was 1935) is a Stanley no. 73 mortise gauge with the Stanley name on the head. The no. 73 is a rather unusual gauge in the Stanley line, as it does not use a thumbscrew-actuated bar for the sliding bar. The sliding bar rides in a T-shaped or dovetailed groove, and is held in place by friction and the pressure of the locking screw. The gauge itself is of boxwood with brass screw, and is much shorter than the other gauges in the line (about 5-1/2"). The boxwood has some discoloration, but otherwise it is in excellent condition with none of the grooves that well used gauges have. As far as I can tell and I am not an expert, it has all the original parts and everything works very well. This is a hard to pass up gauge for all you collectors and users alike. Please look at photos and a buy-it-now purchase will ship for free (not including ins.) to the USA. Good luck bidding
