This rare and beautiful glass bell was manufactured on the World's Columbian Exposition fair grounds by The Libbey Glass Company in 1893. For ten cents, visitors in the Midway Plaisance area could see glass being made at the Libbey Glass factory and could custom order their souvenir. This bell rings sweetly and is in excellent condition with no chips, nicks or chips. You will love it. The bell features the early Libbey star logo on top of the spiraled, frosted handle, with the original acorn clapper, and "Worlds Fair 1893" frosted on the front. It stands approximately 4 3/4" high by 2 3/4" across. "Libbey's glass factory was one of the most popular attractions. The Crockery and Glass Journal reported: The factory at the Fair is a model of completeness...Yesterday a new feature was added to the exhibit which delighted the visitors greatly. Spectators for a small sum each were allowed to 'blow' and the funny results..kept the great crowds in excellent humor. The cutters and weavers attract most general attention... The weavers were making fabric from glass threads. Libbey included a glass dress in is display as well as neckties and dolls of fiberglass as souvenirs." -- Source: Glass From World's Fairs 1851-1904, by the Corning Museum of Glass, New York.
