Offered from a local estate is a wonderful, one of the most beautifully painted Gone With The Wind lamps I have ever seen. Content, I always hear about content....and that's what puts this one above the rest. No roses , but a beautiful piece of art depicting Cherubs fluttering around their Goddess, serving her if you will. On the opposite side of that scene is a ship, on both the upper and lower portions of the lamp. I can't find a signature but I can see what's in front of my eyes, quality hand painting by an obvious master of the trade. Lamp measures about 24" tall. Base looks to be made of molded metal and is marked 88 on one of the legs, the upper metal portions seem to be brass. No markings that I can find but has a strong resemblence to Plume and Atwood's lamps, which would put it at the right time....late 1800's. It has been converted to electric, but many years ago because it has an older cloth cord. Condition is near perfect, and I say that because I can't see a thing wrong with it but, in the event that I overlooked something, it would really have to be miniscule. The lamp belonged to the mother of my client, and my client is in her 80's. The mother evidently purchased it from an antique shop in the Northwest someplace, years and years ago.
