Large Japan Law Twin Rare * Superb Specimen! Another Very Special Crystal of Mine ~ I am offering for sale This is a RARE Superb Quartz Crystal Configuration. To my knowledge and what I have learned about Japan Law Twins, these are one of the rarest quartz crystal configurations. Japan Law Twins are a specific configuration of twin which are composed of two tabular, co-planar quartz crystals joined at a nearly perfect 90 degree angle. I have been told by a friend who is a crystallographer, that the exact degree is actually 87.6. I became interested in these due to their unique shape; which to me appear to be somewhat heart shaped. The name of this particular configuration came about when they were first found and studied at length in Japan. Strictly an observation from my point of viewÂ... I find it fascinating how the two crystals merge. So often with twins one can see w they come togetherÂ... but with this, w they merged, it is a true intermingling of the two crystal structures. In this area w they mergedÂ... it appears their structure become cross hatchedÂ... (the structure is criss-crossed). T is a sort of zip zagged intermingling of the twoÂ... to the point they are literally inter-locked with each other. Another Interesting observation is each crystal has striations running at different angles. On one side of the crystal it has a natural frosty surface, the other side has a glossy striated natural finish. ItÂ's transparency shows in the photos. This Japan Law Twin not only has a rarity of structure, ButÂ... Simply put ~ itÂ's Beautiful! It Measures: 2 3/8 x 2 1/2 x 5/8 at itÂ's thickest Or 60mm x 64mm x 14mm.
