This auction is for one (1) RARE JOHN B. O'DONOHUE & CO. MOCHA & JAVA COFFEE TIN from 5th Avenue, New York! This is a wonderful example of an early coffee tin! Fantastic treasure, this is in excellent condition, considering its age and use! Deeply embossed on all four (4) sides of tin with an encircled sunburst pattern -- fantastic! Still shows the beautiful dark copper/bronze coloring, too. It bears the Maine dirt from the old barn (storage wasn't an issue for the grandparents!), but should clean up fairly nicely for new owner. Some wear to metallic sheen on top and cap, as expected from usage! Cap is embossed, in fancier lettering: 5th Ave./ Mocha&Java/ JohnB.O'Donohue&Co. (in arch upwards)/ New York This was produced/marketed by the "Coffee King" of the turn-of-the-century, John B. O'Donohue. He had a very successful wholesale coffee house business, also known under John B. O'Donohue & Sons Company and O'Donohue & Co. He had passed away by 1903, but was referred to as the "late millionaire", still renowned for his quality coffees, teas, and cocoas. A son continued the legacy of his father for a little while. This is a fantastic tin! Wonderful collectible for anyone interested in early advertising pieces, vintage coffee/cocoa/tea items, tins/boxes, O'Donohue Co. pieces, or historical NY memorabilia in general!
