This is a rare leather-covered French Longchamp made particularly for the fashionable ladies that attended the famous race course. It is the first small, lady-style Longchamp I have run across in four decades. French fashion designer Jean Cassegrain starting making these pipes in 1948. Most were bigger and bolder models for men. They do make a fashion statement. Longchamp is a famous French horse race course and the pipes were designed to supplement the wardrobe of the high society set that frequented the race course. Longchamps were made from "Century old Algerian Briar," the bowls were turned in St. Claude in the Jura Mountains. The pipes ware "dressed and sewn by hand in Paris," according to the Longchamp Pipe Co. of Paris. The pipes were made until the 1980s. I don't smoke dirty pipes, tfore I don't sell dirty pipes. This one has been thoroughly cleaned and buffed. Its leather is in excellent condition and the stitching is still in excellent shape. The leather is a dark green and has been re-oiled to restore its original condition. The pipe will change to a lighter green with time as the oil is more completely absorbed into the leather. This pipe appears to have been smoked only once or twice. It is ready to smoke again.
