For your consideration, we are pleased to offer this rare and unusual Mauchline wooden needle case. It is in the actual shape and size of an egg. Constructed of wood it reads on the front HUEVO DE COLON-AGUJAS FINAS-SANTA MARIA-DEPONIERT (written on both sides with a feather enclosed inside a shield. The front side has a picture of the Santa Maria. The back reads CALIDAD 87656-MARCA LA PLUMA-DEPONIERT-COLON. The picture on the back is a gathering of people with flags and the ship in the left side background. The inside shows an arrow that points to the size number of needle you would need for sewing. The retractable stem reads Cerrado-Poner la flecha delante dell numero que se precise. It is all hand painted and does show signs of age. We have not seen another like this on ebay.
