You are bidding on a real rock art displaying Petroglyphs (Peh-truh-GLIFS). Petroglyphs are also called pictograms, carved rock, rock art, picture writing and rock graphics that often tell stories of native people, rituals, animals, birds, reptiles or insects. Most rock art were pecked, incised, scratched, chiseled, chipped or cut into stones, Limestone & Sandstone bluffs, walls or large or small flat rocks with stone tools made of harder or denser rocks like flint-rock, or by using animal horns & bones, or by using early crude metal tools such as railroad nails, nails or small axe. Other rock art were painted with wild berries, grass, mud or black ash from burnt firewood, or they used white limestone, red/brown/orange ore-stones to paint icons on cliff/cave walls, animal skins, or terracotta (clay/dirt/mud) pots. We live in Texas w many Native tribes lived and roamed the entire State. Most all tribes carved or painted Petroglyphs of some type or another by men, women or children to pass time, record rituals, tell or repeat stories or display animals or scenes in nature. Over the years we've walked over many mountain/hill tops close to and along rivers on our weekend fishing, hunting or outings to find arrowheads and other artifacts. Some Native American tribes lived on top of mountains & hill tops close to rivers to keep away from dangerous animals, enemies, have water to drink, cook, wash clothes, catch animals or fish for food so, Mountain/hill tops close to rivers and river banks are one the best areas to search for artifacts. Most of the rock art we've found were along a river's edge or banks beneath high cliffs & caves and most were under water during the wet season. Over many years rain storms with powerful running water loosen the dry rock art that each year are exposed to extreme heat duirng the Summer months, then eventually the rain water breaks off the rocks and they fall down onto the river beds breaking into pieces, while others fall into the rivers water during the wet seasons exposing them in the dry river beds in the dry Summer season. None of my rock art collections were ever found in any State or Federal Parks nor from any Native American Reservation as those areas are prohibited and protected by Law as they should be to protect the Native American culture and history. Description: Authentic Native American rock art and a broken piece from a larger rock art. This Sandstone rock art etched drawing was created using crude tools. This rock art appears to display several Native American icons from left to right: bottom left what appears to be a small animal perhaps a rabbit with small round tail, then an icon of a Native American Chief denoted by drawing of head of feathers holding lance in right hand and right arm is outstretched This ritual story is perhaps of a special hunt for food. This rock is quite old as it has hardened soil deposits embedded into the stone. Native Americans often etched, carved and painted art stories on rocks or wood of their rituals and life often using themselves, other people or animals, reptiles, birds and insects in Petroglyph art.
