Thanks for checking out our auction! This wonderful lidded jar made by Red Wing Potteries was an estate find - and a lucky one! This rare piece is Redwind saffron spongeware. It is sponged in red (rusty) and green with a circular pattern. The jar itself is lidded - the original lid in great condition!!) and has a single handle. I believe this jar is quite unusual. I have located two handled "bean pots" of this type but haven't found any other with the single handle. The jar has the ribbing or paneled pattern of the saffron spongeware and has avery faint number marking on the bottom, although I cannot clearly make out the number. They appear to be "616"?. T is a small glaze imperfection near the bottom of the handle but this was done during the maufacturing process. The only damage is a very small rim chip of approx. 1/8" on the inside of the rim. When the lid is one, you cannot even see it. A super collectible piece for any Red Wing Lover! We apparently made a mistake in our listing of this item believeing the piece to be authentic Red Wing. We even had a professional pottery appraiser look at the piece for us before listing. Several long-time collectors have looked at the piece since we listed it, however, and told us that in fact it is not RW after all. We have been told that it is very old - and valuable spongeware - just not read more
