RARE TEXAS CENTENNIAL 1936 PLATE- CAPITOL at COLUMBIA If you are interested in early Texas history, you're probably already familiar with the incredible series of blue & white transfer ware plates made in Czechoslovakia by MZ ( Moritz Zdekauer) CMHR (Hutschenreuther) Altrohlau for the 1936 Texas Centennial celebration. The Texas Centennial celebrated the 100 Year Anniversary of Texas winning her independence from Mexico. These plates honored the events & people that helped make the Great State of Texas. I believe they were offered for sale by the department store chain, A. Harris. Although the plates can be found occasionally, some patterns are more commonly seen than others. In the years that I've followed Texas Centennial items, I have RARELY seen this particular plate, which commemorates the ORIGINAL Texas Capitol at Columbia, prior to the Capitol in Austin. The 9 5/8" diameter blue & white plate is striking with its central vignette of the modest capitol, surrounded by a border including the Texas Centennial logo and the 6 flags that flew over the state. The remainder of the border features a cowboy roping a steer, buffalo/bison, cactus, cotton bolls, and other symbols of Texas.
