For sale is an large outstanding civil war veterans medal from the 51st Regiment Veterans Association, New York State Volunteers. It measures about 3 1/2 inches long overall, by about 2 inches wide. The metal itself is a little over 1 1/2 inches in circumference. T is a bronze ribbon which serves as a clasp that is marked Tiffany & Co. the pin is in very solid shape and still is an excellent stiff working order. The ribbon is comprised of red white and blue fabric which shows some signs of some wear, but is overall intact. The front of the bronze medal reads New York State Volunteers Veterans Association 51st Regt. 1861. The bottom of the medal reads Shepard Rifles. The bottom rim of the medal has been hand engraved with the number 127. This is apparently the number associated with the soldier in this item was issued to. The back of the medal reads Ninth Army Corps, and has the insignia of the New York state crest, and a union shield on each side. It is topped by a eagle with its wings spread, and the ninth Army Corps in insignia on bottom. This is a very handsome metal that is in excellent shape for its age.
