Up for bids is a rare find. It is a vase that was turned in Jugtown using the Black Ankle glaze, which is very hard to control. The Black Ankle glaze was used in the John Mare era in 1960-1962. The Black Ankle glaze uses Albany slip with white slip glaze layered, so you never know what visual you'll get. John Mare bought Jugtown pottery from Juliana Busbee in 1959. T is quite a bit of history assocaited with this piece, as not many pieces were turned in the Black Ankle glaze. This vase stands 7 3/8" tall and the mouth is 3 1/8" across. The circumference is 17" at its widest area. This piece features the larger Jugtown stamp, indicating its age as well. The stamp is quarter size. This vase has a few pinpoints and one glaze miss, which all classify as manufactuer flaw, which is not uncommon on a piece of this age. This piece is in excellent condition, as t are no chips, cracks or flea bites on it anyw Don't miss the opportunity to own this rare piece of NC Seagrove pottery. Thanks for takin' a peek!
