This auction is for a small group of US Army Air Force items that belonged to my father from his service in WWII. The 3rd Staff Squadron DUI Distinctive Unit Insignia is a rare item and one of only a few like it known to exist in collections today. Joseph M. Massaro's definitive guide to "US Army Air Force Distinctive Insignia" rates this DUI as RARE. He defines the rare classification in his book as: Only 4 to 10 examples known to exist. This is an original unhallmarked pinbacked insignia made by the Green Company, Kansas City, Missouri. The other items that go along with this grouping are an original decal for the 3d Staff Squadron 4.25 inches x 5 inches in size and a 6 page Sept. 10, 1943 issue of the "Shermanian" newspaper from Sherman Field, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas. The airfield paper was edited by my father who spent his entire career after leaving the military in the printing industry in Kansas City, MO before his death in 1993. The 2 b&w photos shown in the listing are not part of this auction, they are used to illustrate how the insignia was being used. Those photos will be available as part of another auction of photos my father took and used in the Sherman Field Newspaper when he was the editior.Bid with confidence in my 100% eBay feedback rating and 10 years as a user on eBay. Guaranteed to be original or your money back.
