PRICE REDUCED. RARE ORIGINAL RED GROOMS ETCHING " RUDY" 1976 MEASURING 3 3/4" x 4 7/8" [IMAGE SIZE]. SIGNED WITH FULL SIGNATURE BY THE ARTIST WITH FULL SIGNATURE, "RED GROOMS", NUMBERED "1/20", DATED "76" AND TITLED "RUDY". This exceptional etching, on embossed paper, is in fine condition and one of the scarcest of all of the Artist Etchings executed by Grooms. Rudy Burckhardt, artist, photographer, filmmaker, painter, writer and cultural icon was a close friend and collaborator of Grooms. Burckhardt worked with Grooms on a film about Grooms and his work. They were close friends until Rudy decided to end his life by walking in to a pond behind his home in Searsmont, Maine on August 1, 1999. Grooms was given the nickname "Red" by Dominic Falcone (of Provincetown's Sun Gallery) when he was starting out as a dishwasher at a restaurant in Provincetown and was studying with Hans Hofmann .Background and educationGrooms was born in Nashville, Tennessee during the middle of the Great Depression . He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago , then at Nashville's Peabody College . In 1956, Grooms moved to New York City, to enroll at the New School for Social Research .
