Beautiful Oriental Vintage ROUND TRAY is Hand Carved and Etched in a Red & Black Japanned/Lacquered Finish Signed & dated by the artist Tray measures 10.25" in diameter. The background of the front of the tray has been hand carved and hand painted to resemble fish scales, along with a carved & painted iris. The black square has a smooth surface with a cat sleeping in a garden. The back of the tray is japanned black with the the artists' signature "Nikko" and the date "1955 May 22" carved into it. T are also water plants and a wispy overhead branch that are carved in the same way. Overall condition is very good, with the exception of a scuff or two to the rim area. T is also an area with a scratch, see photo. This is not deep and is only to the lacquer. The back of the tray shows marks of usage. The tray has two small brass tacks on either side, most likely for a string to hang on the wall.
