Up for bid is a rare find, a B.P.L. ( Briar Pipes Limited), made in Dublin, Ireland, in very good condition. This is an old one, I can't put a date on it, but the entire stem was a light tan color from oxidization when I got it. I've managed to get most of the oxidization out while preserving the "B.P.L." stamp on the stem piece. I hand buffed parts of this pipe because the stampings in the briar are pretty faint, still readable, but you have to be in the right light. Stamping on the left side says, "B.P.L." on top of "Special" centered. The right side is stamped "Made in Dublin" on top of "Ireland" centered. The grain is very nice, lots of bird's eye and cross grain going down the top and bottom of the shank. The only thing I feel I need to mention about the condition of this pipe is that the previous owner seems to have glued the stem into the shank. I didn't want to try too hard to get it out at risk of breaking the stem or the shank. However, the airway is still clear, so functionally, the pipe is still great. The bowl has been reamed and sanded, stem has been sanitized and any major teeth marks have been removed from it. This is a very vintage beauty and is ready to be smoked or displayed in a collection.
