Remains (carcoenecium) of anemone Stylobates aeneus Dall.Oahu, Hawaii 70 mm, F+ Ultra rare Hawaiian specimen with the hermit crab, Parapagurus dofleini Blass taken out. This isn't a hard shell but the remains of the anemone Stylobates aeneus. The symbiosis starts with a small dead shell colonized by a hermit; then the anemone attaches and extends the "shell" for the hermit. The anemone is no longer present in the photos. What you see is the remains of chitinous material that forms the soft texture snail-like housing which the anemone secreted. It feels like kelp, pliable and leathery. This specimen was taken in very deep water, 2,000 feet. There are two 2mm tears on the lip of the aperture as seen in photo. Full data comes with this shell. Shipping in USA is by USPS priority mail, $5.25. Non-USA addresses will be charged accordingly. No shipping to ITALY. Payments must be paid within three days after end of auction.
