WW1 Medal 'Pour les blessés de la tuberculose' with very rare promotional leaflet During WW1, René Lalique used his brilliant jewellery design skills to produce various medals, pendants, brooches and pins which were sold to help raise funds for French soldiers, their wives and children. The central motif of t his medal depicts an angel with wings outspread over a group of almost ghost-like soldiers ('les poilus'), with the accompanying legend: “ Pour les blessés de la tuberculose“ (‘For those struck down with tuberculosis’). It was a stark reminder of the 16000 veterans who had contracted this often deadly disease while serving their country. This is an evocative design and is very hard to find in such good condition. Condition report: This particular medal is made of thin pressed brass and measures 3.2 cms in diameter and has its own French tri-colour ribbon. The reverse is plain and hollow pressed. It is i n lovely condition with hardly any sign of wear - t he depth of definition is very good and the Lalique signature is excellent. The original promotional leaflet measures 16 cms by 10 cms and the colours are very good, showing little sign of fading. There are several pin pricks where medals were attached to it and a slight tear in the bottom right hand corner. The medal and leaflet are wonderful little pieces of history with read more
