Reproduction Lignum Vitae Masons Presentation and/or Ceremonial Mallet "A thing of beauty is a joy forever" John Keats 1795 - 1821 Because Ebay uses software which looks for key words and when found automatically deletes the listing, some words are impossible to use even though their use is entirely innocent. The modified teeth that grow from Elephant's heads is one of these things. The use of the common name for these teeth, automatically causes the listing to be removed and a threat of being banned from Ebay sent to the poster. Ebay should learn that there are legitimate uses for some key words and, at the very least, let a human being look at the listing before removing it. I will refer to this banned word as "tooth" in this listing. This is a reproduction of an antique mallet which was recently sold on UK Ebay. The original is now for sale in the USA with Jim Bode Antique tools for an asking price of 240.00 odd quid. Unfortunately, Mr. Bode mis-identified the original piece as Ebony, Tooth, and Cocobolo. It is, in fact, Ebony, Tooth, and Lignum Vitae. My reproduction is as faithful a copy as is possible. It could easily pass for an original. I obtained pictures and dimensions from the original UK seller. I have only substituted Boxwood for the original Tooth. Everything else is as in the original. The head measures 4.5" ( 114 mm) in diameter. It is 9" (228 mm) long. It weighs 3 lb. (1.35 kg). The head is Lignum Vitae. The top knot, spacer between the Boxwood, and handle are Ebony. The two light coloured rings are Boxwood. The head is covered with very fine spider web of minor surface shakes just like the original. I speculate that the original was either a ceremonial or presentation piece as it is too ornate to be of any practical use. As this is a relisting, I have reduced the asking price. Grab yourself a bargain or make an offer for an even bigger bargain. For the 99.9% of eBayers who read as well as look, please don't take offence at the red text. It is only aimed at the 0.1% of low brow illiterate Neanderthals whose eBay shopping skills consist of: 1. Look at pretty picture. 2. 3. Subject the seller to an extensive four letter vocabulary when the postage is expensive. 4. Leave negative feedback even though they caused the problem in the first place.
