Reproduction Tizona, Moorish Sword of El Cid of Spain El Cid's bravery and deeds won him respect from Christian and Moor alike. El Cid was a hero of 11th century Spain during the Reconquista. Later exiled by King Alfonso VI, El Cid left service in Castile and worked as a mercenary general for other rulers, both Moor and Christian. Late in life, El Cid captured the Mediteranian coastal city of Valencia, ruling it until his death in 1099. This magnificent reproduction sword replicates the sword, Tizona, that El Cid won in battle, taken from an Moorish chief named Malik Bucar, with variations in the blade decoration from the original. The beautifully intricate pewter tone guard, pommel, and wire wrapped handle replicate that of the original Tizona. The stainless steel blade has a matching Spanish motif etched into it. The original is now one of Spain's most cherished relics and can be found at the Museo del Ejercito (Army Museum), Madrid. Tizona comes with a sturdy black leather sheath with brown detail. Overall length is 40", blade measures 32.5".The blade is quite sharp and not recommended for combat use or sword play.
