Place your BID NOW!!! Hiro Yamagata is considered one of the most successful and multi-talented contemporary artists. He is internationally renowned for both his early silkscreen art and his more recent laser art. Known as a pioneer who is never willing to settle, Yamagata has pushed both himself and the art community forward and is recognized as a contemporary pioneer. Yamagata is respected for his skill, his diverse artistic talent, and his important role as an innovator in the contemporary art community. Born in 1948 in Maibara City, Japan, Hiro Yamagata was an artist from a young age. After high school he worked at an artist’s material and as an illustrator in Tokyo. In 1972, he moved to Milan and later to Paris. He started producing watercolor and oil painting and selling them while in Paris. While Europe, and Paris particular, drove most of the change in the modern art movement at the beginning of the twentieth century, but the second half of the century the new driving art forces were coming from America. Interested in becoming a part of the innovation, Hiro Yamagata moved to Los Angeles, California in 1978. Inspired by the Pop Art movement, Yamagata began producing silkscreen as a medium and his work became known for its bright, vibrant colors. Almost immediately, his silkscreen work was a monumental success in American. During the 1980s, he was commissioned to create art for the Air & Space bicentennial, the 1984 Olympics, that anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, President Ronald Reagan, and a series of golf related paintings he created with the famous golfer Jack Nicklaus. During the 1990s, Yamagata’s many commissions continued with work he created for the 1992 and 1995 Olympics, the Kyoto 1200 year celebration, the anniversary of Columbus’ discovery, and many more. Although Hiro Yamagata had reached monumental success with his iconic silkscreen work, he was eager to explore new things. Beginning in the 2000s, he focused his attention on laser art. He held his first laser exhibitions in 2002 which were immediately hailed for their originality and innovation by art critics. Yamagata could have easily continued to produce his silkscreen work to great critical acclaim and commercial success for the rest of his life, but he was not content to rest on what he knew. He has always been an innovator and was excited to be a pioneer for a new medium in the art world. While his laser work started with one piece of art, through the 2000s it would expand into major art installation that would take up entire rooms. By 2005, Yamagata had focused his laser art into producing large scale holograms. Today, Hiro Yamagata is celebrate as one of the most innovative and multi-talented artists in the world.
