Up for auction is a absolutely fantastic Full size Red J with double jeweled ends and a smooth 1550 nib. AND Original Esterbrook Sac...
If you are looking for THE example of a red Esterbrook J, this is IT! Condition: This pen is a full sized red J pen. Double Jeweled J's were produced from 1948 on and comprise the majority of the classic Esterbrook look. This particular J has a great highly rippled extremely intense red marbled base pattern alternating with a very dark very straight grained dark red/ black swirl. This is the sharpest red J I have ever seen. It came to me in very, very lightly used condition and is just a really great example of the red Esties. The clip is engraved with the âeoeEsterbrookâe imprint and the barrel has a very clear and deeply engraved âeoeEsterbrook R (registered trademark) Made in the U.S.A.âe Due to the presence of the spade style lever and the later âeoeRâe imprint this J would have been earlier to middle in production date. No cracks or splits, both jewels are glossy. The clip is ever so slightly up on this one so that a playing card just slides under it. The pen barrel is almost perfect, nothing but micro scratches. The cap is just as good! Restoration: The pen has been completely restored and sports a cleaned J bar. Both the barrel and cap have been polished and are smooth and shiny. The original Esterbrook sac is in place and is quite useable, but as always if the winning bidder would like it swapped out, I would be happy to do so. The lever fill works great and fills and expels water or ink. Please read my hand written review for more information and example of the pens nib. The fine print you don't have to read unless you care to, t is no more info about this particular auction just general information about me and my restoration policies. I love fountain pens and believe that they are a wonderful way to collect and use the past in our day to day lives. I am primarily a user of fountain pens and only by necessity a collector. My restored pens have been refurbished in keeping with the philosophy that no restoration is the best restoration. I only do what is necessary in order to render a good writing, cosmetically attractive pen that is as close as possible to the original factories output. I do not use mechanical polishing methods that wear away or alter the original profile or engraving of the pens. I do not replace mechanical elements unless they are in danger of failing, like J bars, sacs or sections. Unless noted you are receiving a pen with it's original factory correct j-bar and section but most pens are resaced since in many cases the pens are not usable as daily writers otherwise. In some cases I will leave the original Esterbrook printed sac in place if it is still pliable although I will replace these original sacs at a customer's request. I ship in boxes, not paper or plastic envelopes. I use real packing materials and try to provide a good value for my customers so they are paying a fair shipping price with a small allowance made for the extra hassle that comes with international shipping. I stand behind my work and will work to address any concerns that you have about a pen I have sold. This being said I am deeply committed to long term customer satisfaction and building a relationship with my customer's through âeoewish listsâe that I track as I get new pens and special restoration work done on a commission basis as well. Thanks for looking and please say Hi if you too are a âeoepen person.âe
