RFM 13025 Vintage Russian Christmas Ornament Owl. The ornament 1960 year Brief History of Vintage Christmas Ornaments to Decorate Christmas Trees from Russia. is a brief history of Russian Christmas ornaments. First of all, You should do use a term - NEW YEAR ORNAMENTS, if you speak about glass, wire, cotton and/or cardboard ornaments that were produced in the former Soviet Union âe" USSR. Why not to say CHRISTMAS ornaments? Well, it wasn't the Christmas in USSR since 1920s until 1990s. Since 1929 year to 1936 year Christmas celebration was prohibited officially in Soviet Union. And some Soviet people were really arrested by Russian communist government during that time period. Soviet people weren't even allowed to celebrate New Year for a long time 1924-1936 years. First New Year Soviet ornaments were produced in Moscow in 1936-1937 years. And as Iâe(tm)ve said above, t were four kinds of New Year ornaments. Glass ornaments, cotton ones, cardboard ones and wire ornaments some later. Oh, I forgot to mention about plastic ornaments that produced in USSR in 1980s too, but thatâe(tm)s not vintage stuff at all. Beginning glass ornaments were cost much more than those three other ornamentâe(tm)s kinds. And before 1970s all glass ones are painted by hand.
