First of all, You should do use a term - NEW YEAR ORNAMENTS, if you speak about glass, wire, cotton and/or cardboard ornaments that were produced in the former Soviet Union âe" USSR. Why not to say CHRISTMAS ornaments? Well, it wasn't the Christmas in USSR since 1920s until 1990s. Since 1929 year to 1936 year Christmas celebration was prohibited officially in Soviet Union. And some Soviet people were really arrested by Russian communist government during that time period. Soviet people weren't even allowed to celebrate New Year for a long time 1924-1936 years. First New Year Soviet ornaments were produced in Moscow in 1936-1937 years. And as Iâe(tm)ve said above, t were four kinds of New Year ornaments. Glass ornaments, cotton ones, cardboard ones and wire ornaments some later. Oh, I forgot to mention about plastic ornaments that produced in USSR in 1980s too, but thatâe(tm)s not vintage stuff at all. Beginning glass ornaments were cost much more than those three other ornamentâe(tm)s kinds. And before 1970s all glass ones are painted by hand. Producing cotton and cardboard ornaments was stopped in 1960s. You cannot see angels or other Bibleâe(tm)s characters, because same ornaments were never produced in the former Soviet Union. However, you can watch some of the Soviet Union's historic events if you look on many ornaments from the former USSR. For example, 1950s was the "corn period" in the USSR, and many glass corn ornaments were produced during that period. The "space race" between the USSR and the USA of the 1960s and this mean many ornaments with cosmonauts, space rockets and glass orbital spacecrafts .
