I'm very pleased to offer this rich and hard-to-get specimen of Copper with Silver with Barite and probably Acanthite from the Cashin mine, near Bedrock, Montrose County, Colorado. The specimen measures 1-3/4 x 1-1/2 x 3/4 inches and shows a rich intergrowth of massive to crudely-crystallized copper, massive silver, pale orange barite and probable dark massive acanthite. The specimen has a sawn backside and base as it is positioned in the gallery photo. This is an old piece from the Otto Ray collection of Salt Lake City, Utah and comes with his label indicating an acquisition date of 1956. Much of the Otto and Robert (his son) Ray collection was purchased several years ago by David and Colleen Shannon of David Shannon Minerals in Mesa, AZ. The specimen includes a little note in the late David's handwriting (C. Shannon, pers. comm.) noting that the specimen is 50%+ Ag! It seems to me to be somewhat less than 50% but it's really not a big thing. The Cashin mine is well-known to Colorado collectors as a source of copper and copper-silver specimens. The mine is located in remote Montrose County not far to the east of the Utah line and is located in a scenic canyon. Specimens from , especially these halfbreeds, are only infrequently found on the market. This is the first copper-silver specimen that I've ever had from this mine. Most read more
