Ridgway India Temple 4pc Soup Tureen Staffordshire 1820 Offered for sale is this very rare complete 4 piece large octagonal blue transfer soup tureen by John & William Ridgway of Hanley, Staffordshire. It is printed in the Chinoisserie pattern called "India Temple" (I know, India is not in China. But that's how pattern names were.) This is a large octagonal soup tureen, complete with matching ladle and underplate. The edges are molded in a gadroon pattern, and the cobalt knobs and handles are detailed with gilding. The pieces are marked with a JWR shield mark containing the pattern name, which dates the set to 1814 - 1830. The octagonal underplate is actually marked "Columbia" but this is a mistake, as the pattern is India Temple. The tureen stands 10 1/2 inches tall by 14 inches wide across the handles. The underplate measures 14 1/2 inches wide point-to-point. The ladle measures 12 inches long. The set weighs 10 lbs 4 oz (shipping weight 15 lbs).Condition: The tureen is in excellent condition with the except of one small chip on the underside of one handle and minor interior stains. No cracks or repairs. The ladle is in excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. The underplate has reverse rim chip on most of the points, one of which includes a small hairline, as shown in closeup, plus some light utensil marks. Please see read more
