1941 RODEFER GLASS CO CORRESPONDENCE BINDER--This is a hard-covered binder holding five hundred 8 1/2 by 11" bound hectograph copies of Bellaire, Ohio's Rodefer Glass Company correspondence running from Jan. 24 to March 20, 1941. The book was number 157 in the company's files. Book is 1 1/2" thick.Hectograph, in this case, appears to have been the process for making onion-skin paper copies from a prepared gelatin surface to which the original document has been transferred. The Rodefer Glass Company began as the National Glass Works in Bellaire, Ohio, in 1869. In February 1911, a letterhead identified the company as the "National Glass Works Rodefer Glass Co., Successors to T.A. Rodefer (overprint), Manufacturer Of Lantern Globes, Blown And Pressed Specialties In Private Moulds Prismatic Sidewalk Floor Sash & Skylights, Opal Ware for Decorators, Crystal Lead And Colored Glass." They were also a prominent manufacturer of Lightning Rod Balls for many years. This book was acquired, along with others, in 1982, when the Rodefer-Gleason Glass Co. plant and remaining contents were auctioned off to the public. Many of these books went to the Corning Museum of Glass, and this is one of the few remaining compilations in our collection. Later company correspondence and records were not included in the 1982 auction for legal or personal reasons. read more
