Rolleiflex 3.5E TLR Camera with Planar Sharpest lens ever in a Rollei The Planar-equipped Rolleiflexes are generally considered the best TLR’s ever made, and the 3.5 Planar is considered to be the sharpest lens ever found on a Rollei . At least that is what Jason Schneider of Popular Photography said, and he’s as knowledgeable as anyone gets about old cameras. Here’s a really good 3.5E, in excellent cosmetic condition, as can be seen in the pictures. I apologize for the brown crud on the EVS dial- I did not notice that until after I took the shots. I cleaned it away. First the bad news- I don’t get any joy from the meter cell, and I have not been able to locate a replacement part. This is a common problem for old Rolleis , but is unfortunate. There is a crack in the clear plastic lens of the light meter, which can be seen in one picture. The taking lens coating has a bit of freckling that will have no effect on transmitted light, but can be seen in reflected light if you try really hard. There is a bit of what looks like incipient fungus in the viewing lens, but the taking lens is clear. Now the good news, everything works properly, the first frame auto- positioner , the automatic depth of field scale in the wind knob, the wind mechanism, frame counter, viewing hood, aperture and shutter.
